What are the #sjsharks going to be come the playoffs? That question has been fairly well-answered if only considering the current roster make-up: they’re a playoff team, but not by much and maybe only if injuries stop occurring with such frequency. But what can they do about that? On this week’s podcast, Colin and Ben talk about what the Sharks have as assets (not much) to push this team over the top. The answer? Aaron Dell — future starter for the Calgary Flames. Probably.

CTC Podcast 78 – The Goodrow Rebound
It really looked like this week’s #sjsharks action would be uniformly depressing. But, instead, the Carolina Hurricanes gifted us with a win for the ages. So that made for a much less depressing podcast. Colin was nowhere to be found, so this week Ben and Alex talk about the 4th liners, organizational disarray, and look forward to a four game week ahead (with a pair of back-to-backs, no less). Go Sharks!
CTC Podcast 77 – The Pavelski Milestone
300 goals! How unexpected for a guy who was selected in the nether rounds of the NHL draft. With only 2 games to talk about this week, Alex and Ben spend a lot of time focusing on the injuries that are striking a bit of fear in the fanbase and the sudden end of Joe Pavelski’s scoring drought (and the milestone that came with breaking the schneid). Come have a listen and Go Sharks!
CTC Podcast 76 – The DeBoer Explosion
It’s fair to say we’ve already had enough of Coach DeBoer (in all honesty, Ben had had enough at the end of last season) and this week included numerous examples of why we’d be glad to see him go. The #sjsharks may still be in a playoff spot, but the team remains a huge question mark, as much to us (the fans) as to the coaching staff. All this and more, on the podcast.
CTC Podcast 75 – The Pavelski Regression
We skipped a week, but now we’re back to talk about the last four #sjsharks games. Kind of a down-up-down series of games, but regardless — the Sharks are 7-3-0 in the last ten, better than any other team in the Pacific. Not that that’s saying much, as the Pacific is hot garbage. Lots of games coming up this week, starting tomorrow. So get caught up with the team via this week’s podcast beforehand and Go Sharks!
CTC Podcast 74 – The Demelo Reappearance
OK, actually, we don’t talk that much about Demelo (or at all this week — he’s still the mostly-invisible man on the San Jose Sharks defense), but 74 is his jersey number, so don’t @ me. Instead, Colin and Ben talk about a solid 4-win week and again question exactly what the hell this team is doing with it’s alleged youth movement. Labanc is going down to the ‘Cuda, Meier should more or less be in the same boat, but arguably demoting any of these guys is counterproductive. A lot to unpack from a week of #sjsharks action in this podcast. Enjoy and Go Sharks!
CTC Podcast 73 – Piece of Shipyachov
The San Jose Sharks are 4-5-0 and it’s arguable whether they’ve been lucky or unlucky, good or bad over the first 9 games of the season. Basically, we have no idea yet what this team is, though we mostly agree it’s not exactly well-coached. Alex, Ben and Colin talk about what this team is and needs to do before the trade deadline to be an actual playoff team. Hey, we hear that Vegas has a guy that might be available and solve some problems.
CTC Podcast 72 – Heed These Words
The time of the young Sharks is upon us! Carpenter, Heed, and Ryan have joined Meier, and Labanc in the NHL line-up and the Sharks have been far better for it. Alex and I talk about the transition across the the last two weeks to this younger line-up and hope for more of the same going forward. Go Sharks!
CTC Podcast 71 – Labanc of America
The regular season is here! No facepunchers are on the roster! Kevin Labanc had 2 goals in the first game! The power play scored! You’d think this would be a recipe for happy Sharks fans. And for the most part, you’d be right — aside from the pesky detail of the final score of game 1. The PK was garbage. Jones was not good.
But it’s one game. So Colin and Ben talk mostly about what you can and can’t learn from a single game at the beginning of the season. There’s a long way to go. Beat LA and Go Sharks!
CTC Podcast 70 – Pacific Cesspool
Preseason is almost at an end and the Sharks have had their share of scary (though apparently minor) injuries and Jumbo still hasn’t skated in a game. That said, some smart people are picking the Sharks to have a pretty good regular season, and not just because the Pacific is a dumpster fire. We talk about that, which guys have seized roster spots, and there’s even a 5-minute interlude about protest at the end — with all due warning — because politics overlapped with the NHL this week (and only partly because Ben is a militant Constitutionalist).
